Mixtape Connection 2009 – it is happening, again!

Mixtape Connection Vol. 1 - July 2005

Mixtape Connection Vol. 1 - July 2005

Hey yo!

Woah! I can’t believes it but we’re throwing another Mixtape Connection party! For those who don’t know, the Mixtape Connection was a monthly Indie-Rock, Electro, whatever, Club night that was held at Capitol Bar on Hereford Street throughout 2005 and 2006. The line-up at the first party was Missy G from RDU’s Girlschool, Richard from Guitar Media (you can now find him online at Rose Quartz) and myself from the Mixtape Sessions, known then as Mr Hitchcock (I had not yet gained my PhD in Scientology). Indie Slut joined the crew at gig 2 and  became a resident after Richard moved to Australia in Dec 05. Back in the day it was a fully functional indie death star, complete with cassette mixtapes, zines, CDs, t-shirts, badges, atari games on flatscreen, music videos and stamps. For some old photos from the December 05 party visit here. It was pretty cool while it lasted and I know that all who were involved miss it heaps. So anyways, I bumped into Missy G at Goodbye Blue Monday (GBM) sometime last month and she suggested that we throw another party and do it there! What a grand idea! All of us hang out and DJ there all the time these days so why not!

Here are the deets:
Girlschool and StarlifterRadio.com present:

So that’s the buzz. I really hope that you can make it to the party and come hang with us. Our tunes may have changed a bit since ‘05 but the buzz will be just as solid.

Peace,
Dr H

Elston Gun to blast Christchurch “Peow! Peow!”

Holy smokes yo! Wellington outfit Elston Gun, who now features CHCH’s very own Tom from The Deceivers, are gonna be hitting The Bedford in Christchurch on Friday 23rd October! Elston Gun are a very slick rock’n'roll machine indeed and are inspired by the likes of the Queens of the Stone Age, The Kings of Leon, The Bronx, The Black Keys and of course the mighty Jimi Hendrix. Joining them from the garden city will be T54, Pikachunes, and myself, Dr Hitchcock.

T54 are a newish band on the CHCH scene and blew the punters away at the RDU RounD-Up band competition final, they didn’t win but heaps of cats thought they should’ve. And then there is Pikachunes aka Miles McDougall. This started as a solo project when Miles was laid up in bed after an unfortunate gaming accident (pika-pika), poor old Miles came off a little singed after going head-to-head with a raging flame-o-saurus. He also did quite well in RDU’s band comp winning the inaugural “Best Demo” compeition for his song “fire”. Oh yeah, I’m gonna be closing the night with a DJ Set of party rock’n'roll’n'what-not… any requests? Leave them below in the comments or tweet me baby @starliftertv ***

Ajax is coming to Christchurch… FUCK YEAH!

Hey there! Freakin’ rad news! For the first time evers Ajax, one of the most rockin’ electro mother fuckin’ DJs from Melbourne, will soon be playing some sweet, groovy and stonkin’ beats at Base in Christchurch (with many thanks to Samuel from YMC and Paul from Epaulette.tv). This is a big deal. I saw him play at Parklife 2007 while living in Melbourne and he played one of my favourite sets that day, up there with Digitalism and Justice. His DJ sets are a continual jam of electro bangers, indie-rock cock-flogs, and sexy arse sound assassinations. To hear what this guys all about tune into www.StarlifterRadio.com where his “dance til dawn – directors cut” DJ mix is on HIGH rotate. There is also a rumor that he’s gonna be making a cameo on RDU.org.nz. Ajax hangs out with the Bang Gang crew, is good friends with the cats at Modular Records and also runs a label called “Sweat It out” which has one of my other Aussie faves, Gameboy/Gamegirl, signed to it. Fucking yeah!

Here’s the deets:
